Try watching The Only Way is Essex or AKA TOWIE . I came across it middle of the night by accident looking for something to help me sleep. It turned out to be like watching a car crash - very scary stuff.

RE: Aaarrrggghhhh
Yay, Wallander! And from the Danes, Borgen and The Killing! Saturday nights, just now, are for the Italian detective show (quite old but cute) Inspector Montalbano. I'd rather a rerun of the TV Wallender series (Swedish version, not the English unsubtle clone) with it's amazing photography, wonderful subplots, human characters... I could watch it over and over....

Having ME helps - you don't remember the endings..

Borgen is well worth watching, hopefully the full series is still on iPlayer. Yes it is http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b019c0dy
No it isn't, only the last two are still available. Boo. Danish, with subtitles.

ETA apologies on behalf of the BBC, iPlayer videos are only available to people in the UK. The radio programs however are available world wide.

The British sitcom Outnumbered is pretty funny. Anyone else watch it? I also like Life Begins.

RE: Aaarrrggghhhh
I love those bright sassy kids in Outnumbered, though the boy would be a pain to live with - did you know that the kids ad-lib, their dialogue is not scripted, just the situation is laid out? I despair at the parenting sometimes, although the Mum and Dad characters are sympathetic, they keep making such basic mistakes.

Yes, I know it's a work of fiction Rolleyes

:) Thanks, Phyfe. Nice to see you're still modding here.

Hi Jace. The kids ad-lib? I'm impressed! It seemed to me that they were being given adult lines to make them appear brilliant. I just had to look this up and found this explanation:

Quote:MamaBas

Basically all they have is an outline script. They are allowed to ad lib around the gist of the story. There are loads of 'takes' and all of it is sorted through, and pieced together to make the episode. It's VERY clever stuff and a BRILLIANT show!! I hope these kids get an award this year because they've been passed over too often.

The little girl is amazingly good.

I just went to Netflix to see if they had another disk and they're no longer carrying this series. :( All they have is the American version which I'm not at all interested in watching.

RE: Aaarrrggghhhh
I must preface any remarks with the disclosure that I do not own a TV set. Owning one is a mental health risk in normal times, and positively life-threatening in an election year. With presidential elections in the U.S., Mexico and France in the same year one might easily assume 2012 really marks the end of the world, had not archaeologists found a Mayan calendar extending beyond this year.

It speaks volumes that the best material on U.S. television is based on ridiculing other TV coverage. Here's an example of The Colbert Report examining the role of television in Mexico's presidential election.

Unconstrained by the schedules of the tube I have read two complete trilogies in the last two weeks, and am currently embarked on "Moby Duck".
